I have read that non-HO 5.0's have 14's/gray. I noticed that mine has 19's/orange-tan If it need's 14's then that would explain why I am getting only 9-10 mpg!..... If 14's are the norm, then I will put on my AFPR and turn the pressure down 7-8 psi to try and compensate. Thanks!

Yeah, supposed to have 14s.
![]() That is kinda odd. Tell us you make out after you put the AFPR on.

When I bought the car the guy pointed out that he just put new 19#'ers on it.
I didn't pay attention until I noticed that every other non-HO had 14's! I'll report after I tinker with it. I may put it on our local wideband to check for safety. [ September 19, 2003: Message edited by: Four Eyed Stangs ]

My Kirban AFPR fit perfectly.
I turned it down to 30psi and wont go further until I get it on a sniffer. It made a tremendous difference on the exhaust smell and it breaks the rear tires far easier now. I will post the sniffer results once I have them.

Cool, that might be the ticket. Finding a clean 80s 5.0 Tbird, Cougar, TC, Crown Vic, Grand Marquis in the junkyard and getting those 14lb injectors might not be a bad idea, but you probably fixed it.

Oh whoops. Adjustable Fuel Pressure Regulator (AFPR) is one of those 5.0 Mustang words that you usually hear on the Corral!!!
And no, nobody needs an AFPR unless they have a wicked motor, or a blower, or...umm the wrong sized fuel injectors.

The guy I bought it from has the original 14's for me to pick up.
As it sits, It tested emissions at: HC 1.24 on 1.60 allowed CO 18.00 on 15.00 allowed NOx 2.06 on 2.50 allowed I should pass CO tomorrow on the 19's; hopefully.

Wow, that's a nice TC! Yeah, I'd slap the 14s back on...
You can sell the 19s to some stock Mustang or Mark VII guy.

Thanks!
It passed after I dropped the fuel pressure to 24psi and put my MSD on. HC 0.70 CO 08.74 NOx 1.64 I will put the 14's back on ,but I will save the 19's. I have almost everything for an HO conversion but EEC and time. Once the Mustang is fixed I can worry about doing the TC HO conversion.

now that you know what pressure will pass your local "I know better than you" regulations. You can adjust your fuel pressure to find out what is BEST for YOUR driving habits and road conditions. You will find that a 2 to 4 lb difference from your 24 PSIG with your #19 injectors will give you a wider range of power vs fuel mileage. Assuming the rest of the drive train is in good shape, it would not be unexpected to see 27 MPG on the flats say from Phoenix to Tucson and back.
Now for in-town/stop & go driving even with the best setup, starting and stopping a +4000 Lb Luxmobile takes lots of fuel. Enjoy |
