Radio Problems

My 88LSC JBL amp continues to blow 20amp fuses. Replaced the amp and same problem. Problem in the radio? and not the amp?
Thanks. Bill

both are notrious for blowing craps, however blown fuses is also a sign of electrical short, compounding the risk of fire more than the ignition switch already is.

I would vote radio, cause they are junk

Disconnect your battery.
Disconnect all of the stereo components at the component (like AT the speakers).
Replace the fuse.
Reconnect the battery.
Test the fuse.
Reconnect one component.
Test the fuse.
Repeat.
The component that sparks has a short.
If no component sparks then either your harness is shorted or you have a bad amp.

Diagnose.
Test.
Replace.

Radio Problems

Update: I removed the after market Kenwood Radio-CD combo, reinstalled my orginal JBL radio, replaced the blown fuse in the amp and all works fine. Obviously, the short is in the aftermarket Radio unit itself. I guess fuses do work! Send the Krenwood off to Southern for repairs????

It's when they DON'T work or are OVERSIZED that we get into real trouble.

Enjoy your stock unit. If it starts to smoke, you've probably lost your oltage regulator
