Oxygen O2 Sensor Issue - 95TC
Well I think I screwed up. I was getting a code that said the left bank catalytic efficiency was off. Changed the left side catalytic converter and replaced the 2 O2 sensors while I was at it. And while I was at THAT, I figured I might as well change the 2 O2 sensors on the OTHER side, since this 95TC has 121K miles on it. Well, it wasn't too bad....not a cake walk, but easier than I thought. AFTERWARDS, I noticed that the old ones were 2 different colors.....hmmm I thought....I wonder why that is?? I'd replaced all 4 with Bosch #13133. The place where I bought them (AutoPartsWharehouse.com) showed the same part number for the front and back. Upon further checking, it seems that the fronts are different from the backs..... ![]() And I live in the Peoples Republik of Kalifornia, so am wondering 2 things. 1. Is this BAD for the running/performance of the engine, and 2. Will it affect passing smog? Thanks for any help, and go ahead and tell me the bad news, if it's necessary.......lol..........z |

Advance shows a different PN for the upstream and downstream so...
Not to push you over the edge or anything, but there is a TSB on the PCM having too strict of readings for the catalyst efficiency, so ~85% of the time, it just needs reprogramming, not new cats.

Hmm.....Ok. Reprogramming = Battery disconnect for 20Minutes, correct?............THx

No, reprogramming is take it to the dealer or someone who can update your program. If a dealer does it, or did it in the past there should be a sticker under the hood. My 95 was done.

is there a specific place the sticker would be if the reprogramming was done?

Mine is on the header panel over the radiator.

BTW, it only applies to 95-97 Panthers IIRC, definitely not pre '95.

So elaborate on this. How critical is it, and is there anyway I can do it myself?........THx.........z

Btw....GOOD NEWS: From Bosch itself:
7806010230 E-mail kxxxxaiser@lighthouse57.com Ref#2260343 Hans, Thank you for your inquiry, part # 13133 is listed for all locations on your application. You installed correct sensors and should not have any problems passing emissions as long as there are no other issues with the vehicle. Regards, Mike C. Bosch Automotive Technical Support -----Ursprüngliche Nachricht----- Gesendet: Montag, 21. El Cielo Postcode, Town* : Palm Springs Country* : USA Your e-mail address* : xxxxxxser@lighthouse57.com Gruss Gott! I installed 4 Bosch #13133 in my 95 TownCar. The place I bought them listed the same part number for the front and back of each side. Now I find out that the front O2 sensor is different than the back (before and after the catalytic converter). I live in Kalifornia, so 1) Did I install the wrong sensors? Is part number 13133 for the front (before the converter), or behind the converter, or is this the wrong O2 sensor? 2) IF these sensors are OK BOTH in front and rear, will it affect my passing smog in Kalifornia? Danke Fiehlmals!!.............. PS. This site lists them the same way: http://www.boschautoparts.com/RB.NA....5&Make=LINCOLN ........z |

Btw, it seems I'm not getting the mileage according to the instant mileage reading.........when taking off at a nice LEISURELY pace from a stop, mileage goes all the way to 4 mpg..........I don't think it was that low before............z

OK great, don't worry about the PCM update either if you get no more codes, it wont affect MPG. I think my MPG goes down to around there on a liesurly startup, maybe 7.
