Question Engine surges bad at idle

Hello All,

Engine surges at idle and at stop lights.
I get a real bad gas smell when driving.
When I take off from a stop the motor makes a popping noise.
I have replaced the Idle Control Valve.
Checked the Cannister purge solenoid it was closed.
She has all new wires/plugs cap/rotor and coil.
I changed the head gaskets and had heads redone.
Any help please.

Thanks

Any stored codes? that is the first step.

Check the EGR valve, and the special high temp hose that controls it.
Fuel pump pressure, leaking vacuum lines, etc. Did you hook everything up correctly after replacing the head gaskets?

Fuel pump pressure 32psi
I have bypassed the EGR valve vacuum lines with no differents.
only code was for o2 sensor I replaced it.
The engine surged before I did the head gaskets.

She's Fixed.
It was the timing. It was off to me like 80 degrees.I pulled the
distributor, pulled 1 plug and turn the motor to 0 degrees BTC, reinstalled the distributor and set the timing to 10 degrees BTC. Now she run like a champ. Thanks for all the help.
