It's a Bad Day at Ford - Recall update

Ford Motor Company
Ford Customer Service Division
P. O. Box 1904
Dearborn, Michigan 48121
February 2008
Safety Recall 08S01

Mr. John Sample
123 Main Street
Anywhere, USA 12345
Your Vehicle Identification Number: 12345678901234567

This notice is sent to you in accordance with the requirements of the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act.

Ford Motor Company has decided that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists in a Fused Jumper Harness that was installed in your vehicle when it was serviced. We apologize for this situation and want to assure you that, with your assistance, we will correct this condition. Our
commitment, together with your dealer, is to provide you with the highest level of service and support.

What is the issue?

Our records indicated that your vehicle may have been repaired using a
Fused Jumper Harness containing circuit polarity that is not compatible
with your vehicle.

As a result, if an electrical short should occur, the fuse
may not offer the intended protection and the circuit may overheat, smoke, or burn, which could result in an underhood fire. The potential for a fire exists regardless of whether or not the engine is running.

What will Ford and your dealer do?

Ford Motor Company has authorized your dealer to remove the incorrect
Fused Jumper Harness and install the proper Fused Jumper Harness. If
the proper Fused Jumper Harness is not available, a new mating electrical
switch will instead be installed. These repairs will be performed free of
charge (parts and labor).

RETARDS..........

Is this a recall of the speed control deactivation switch recall?

If so, is this the first recall of a recall? I'm confused?

I DONT BELIEVE THIS !!!!!!

"Our records indicated that your vehicle may have been repaired using a
Fused Jumper Harness containing circuit polarity that is not compatible
with your vehicle."

HUH ?????? That is a PERFECT example of the old saying that
if you cant dazzle 'em with brilliance then baffle 'em with Bull...T !!!

Since when is there a polarity in a chunk of wire ???
It may cause in incorrect connection that could lead to a short, but
really just how stupid do they think we are ????

Makes perfect sense. They put the fuse on the battery negative side of the circuit, when it should have been on the battery positive side. The problem with their fuse placement is that the vehicle body is negative, so the fuse is useless in a short situation. It's the same situation where your fuel pump or aftermarket audio amp is fused on the positive wire near the battery so that a short in the circuit to ground (to body) is arrested ASAP.

Shit !!
I just bought the Brake Repair Kit so that I can do the job 'better' than the guys at the dealer, and now this

What a joke !! I was wondering why they didn't just improve the switch and allow connection of the original harness.... and now they decide 'that's a good idea'..

Is Dereck around? What's this polarity issue all about? Can we fix it ourselves?

Lastly, should I now return the Repair Kit? It sounds like it's being recalled too I got mine from Y2K Ford in Seattle.

PROSTOCK will become famous soon enough
There's 2 wires...one is hot, the other isn't. I imagine the morons down in the mexican sweathouse didn't know which wire got the fuse.

I hope this is a joke..

So, let me get this straight. I drove 35 miles to the Ford dealer last year to have a recall done on my car, so it wouldn't "Spontaneously Combust" . Now, they are saying that the recall is having to be RECALLED!! What a company.

I was at my friendly Ford parts place last week. I asked for the recall swich part. I had the P/N and all from our site. My wise part man went in back, got, the part, brought it out. Tapping a few buttons in his computer, he then said " Dave, you don't want this one, a better one is coming out next week, I'll call ya"
Moral: It pays to buy cookies for the parts guy.

Now that my Towncar is back on the road I was planning on having my brother take it in for the recall last week. Glad I didn't. Maybe this weekend. Hope they have the right one in stock. Maybe I'll just dab a little brake fluid on it and see if they will just replace the whole thing instead of half assing it.
