need some help for a freind...

i know this is off topic... but i'd like to be able to help him out....

Mercury MArquis, 98 if I recall correctly. V8.

There's a Ford brain box in the trunk.

The stereo has power, but no music from either radio or tape player right now, too.

following is the original post...

We got pulled over on the way home from Rocky.

We played it off legit.

(nod to Ween)

Our taillights were out.

Cop asked about the dash lights.

They were out too.

Cop says replace the fuse.

Cop says where's your rearview.

I pick it up off the floor.

Cop says get that fixed, too.

SO, I fix the rearview, and replace two fuses.

Now the alarm goes off, disabling the ignition, every time I try to start the car.

The previous owner says they don't know how to fix it.

I tried putting the bad fuses back in.

Since you asked, I can't disarm it with the doorpad or the keyfob, because the driver's door electric lock doesn't work - hasn't since I owned it.

- thanks...

My alarming situation

Thanks for the suggestion.

Here's what I did so far today:

I verified that someone else had already cut the headlight flasher unit out of the ciruit.

I cut the horn out of the ciruit. (No more ear damage while trying things.)

I pulled the bottom panel off the dash. The alarm unit is marked "Code Alarm Pro 3000."

I monitored the red LED on the "sensor" under the dash while pressing the "lock" and "unlock" buttons on the keyfob. The red light never lit.

I read my owner manual and registration, which remind me that this is a 1993 Grand Marquis, not 98 as I had written.

The only switch I (with my limited car knowledge) can identify is the one moutned in the dash for turning the alarm system on or off. It has no noticeable affect, currently.

Any ideas, while I Google the alarm name?

Thank you,

don

Can I just reconnect the ignition directly to the starter?

I acquired the installation manual for the alarm from the internet.

Do you think I could just reconnect the ignition to the starter where the alarm was spliced in?

I mean, EVENTUALLY, I ought to be able to take the alarm completely out of the system, but FOR NOW, could I justdo the above?

(This assumes I cannot locate the disarm button. There is one drawn in the wiring diagram, but I didn't notice it last time under the dash. The switch I mentioned previously is the valet switch.)

Impatience

OK, I did it. I cut the wires that went from the ignition/starter wire to the alarm, then spliced them together.

The car starts.

Now, please tell me I won't ruin the electrical system by driving with it like this.

Thanks.
