Decent Systems On Tha Cheap...

my set-up

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

2 12" Infinity Kappa Perfect (subs)
800w MTX

2 6 1/2" Infinity (Front Doors)
300W Power Acoustik

2 Boston Acoustic 6x9
150w (dont laugh, Optimus)

Heres the system story...
I started out goin thru tag sales and came across one where "everythings $2". after looking around a bit i came across a 200w "Targa" amp with built in x-over ect... I figured for $2 I've got nothin to lose. As Im carting it around a girl walks up and asks if im into car audio cause "i have this big box with a speaker in it upstairs, its my ex BF's, Ill take $5 for it". I figure a 12" box is $70-$80 by its self so why not. Down comes this sealed dual 12" box with 1 Kicker in it. Im figuring the speaker is shot, but for $5 the box alone is worth it. I toss it, and the amp in the car and pull away feeling like i stole something. on my way home i pick up some wire and an adapter to tap into my stock system (91 Pontiac Grand Prix SE with premium sound). I get it all hooked up n wadda ya know, for an old kicker n a 200w amp it pounds enough to shake change off the roof! not too shabby for $35 including wire and adapter.
I enjoyed that for a while untill i came across my MTX at a flea market. the price on it was $65. i traded my 200w targa(I paid $2) and $25 for it. Now with some real power goin to it my kicker was really pounding..and im still well under $100 for a system that really surprised a lot of people.
I ran that as is for about 6 months untill i decided to see how much mid range bass i could get out of that old kicker..it held up for about a month so i went to walmart n picked up a pair of those "800w pioneer subs" i think they were like $70 a piece..my first major investment. after re-adjusting the amp n pulling it way back i was happy. but the joy was short lived. those things welded themselves solid in about 3 weeks. i was pissed!!!
So i go back to the flea market where i got the amp from and inquire about some subs, he just so happens to have a pair in his van he hasnt brought in yet. $40 for the infinity kappa perfects?..SOLD!
Along the way i had picked up the optimus for free(wonder why) and the PA for $20. I think i paid $80 for the door speakers at Best Buy. I just aquired a pair of Boston Acoustics for the rear deck for $10
Even including all the wire and everything Im still very well under $500 for a system that rivals $1500 systems at the stop lights ( I cant hear youuuuu!! ) it just proves that with some patience, footwork and a lil bit of luck, you CAN build a decient system on tha cheap. Pawn shops and flea markets are great places to start building a system. You can get good stuff for about half of what they were new. Not only do they sound fine but the price you got it for, and the bragging rights, makes them sound even better...Good Luck and happy listining!
