Unlocking the
door with the keyless entry system
In vehicles equipped with a Keyless Entry system, you can lock or unlock
the vehicle doors and open the trunk without using a key. The system will
work with up to four transmitters. The manufacturer provided the computer
code that operates the system in three places:
- on the owner's wallet card
- taped to the right hinge of the trunk lid
- taped to the computer module in the trunk
When the system is activated, the illuminated entry system turns on the
interior and keyhole lights for 25 seconds and the buttons on the keypad
light up.
Before unlocking the trunk or passenger door(s) you must unlock the driver's
door. If you let more than five seconds pass between pressing numbers on
the keypad, the system will shut down and you will have to enter the code
again.
- To unlock the driver's door, enter the factory code or your personal
code. All codes have five numbers. After pressing the fifth number, the
driver's door unlocks.
- To unlock the passenger's door, press the 3 / 4 button within five seconds
of unlocking the driver's door or trunk, or re-enter the code to open the
driver's door, then press 3 / 4.
- To unlock the trunk, press the 5 / 6 button within five seconds of unlocking
the driver's or passenger's door, or re-enter the code to open the driver's
door, then press 5 / 6.
Locking the doors with the keyless entry system
The Keyless Entry system can also be used to lock the vehicle doors. You
can also use the Autolock feature to automatically lock the doors after
entering the vehicle.
To lock all of the car doors at the same time, press 7 / 8 and 9 / 0 at
the same time. It is not necessary to first enter your keypad code. This
will arm the anti-theft system (if so equipped).
AUTOLOCK (With Keyless Entry)
The Autolock feature (if equipped) will automatically lock both doors when:
- the vehicle doors are fully closed
- the ignition key is turned to the ON position
- someone is sitting in the driver's seat or a heavy object is placed on
it and
- you shift through Reverse
The Autolock feature will repeat when:
- the ignition key remains in the ON position
- someone remains sitting in the driver's seat or a heavy object is on
the seat, and
- a door is opened and then closed.
Using the buttons for the keyless entry system can deactivate the Autolock
feature.
To deactivate the Autolock system:
- Enter the permanent five-digit entry code (not the personal code you
may have set).
- Within 5 seconds, press and hold 7 / 8.
- Within 5 more seconds, press and release 3 / 4.
- Release 7 / 8.
To reactivate the Autolock feature, simply repeat the instructions for
deactivating the system. The Autolock feature can be turned on and off
using these instructions.
Programming your own entry code
You can program a personal code to unlock your vehicle. This code does
NOT replace the permanent code, but you can use the personal code in the
same manner as the original code.
To program your own code:
- Select five digits for your personal code.
- Enter the permanent code.
- Within five seconds, press 1 / 2.
- Within five more seconds, enter the personal code you have selected,
pressing each digit within five seconds of the last digit.
The keyless system registers this second code. To unlock your vehicle,
you can now use either code. However, the module remembers only ONE personal
code at a time. Entering a second personal code will erase the first one
and replace it. To erase your personal code:
- Enter the original permanent code.
- Press 1 / 2 within five seconds.
- Wait six seconds.
The Keyless Entry system automatically erases your personal code. The system
will now only respond to the permanent code.
*It is recommended that a code not be set that represents numbers in sequential
order, or uses the same button repeatedly.
Arming / disarming / resetting the anti-theft
system from the keyless entry pad
The Keyless Entry system will arm the anti-theft system when you use the
7 / 8 and 9 / 0 keys to lock the doors, and will disarm or reset a triggered
alarm when you enter in the five digit code to unlock the driver's door.
The remote entry system is designed to work with the factory installed
anti-theft system. It may not work with other anti-theft systems.
Memory Seat Feature (If equipped)
The vehicle allows the remote keyless entry system to control the Memory
Seat Module. With this feature, each of the first three transmitters programmed
will recall a different seat position (the program only allows three memory
positions). When unlocking a vehicle equipped with the programmable Memory
Seat/Outside Rear View Mirrors feature, the seat and the outside mirrors
will adjust to position that is set for the transmitter being used.
Pressing the transmitter UNLOCK button once will unlock the driver's door
and move the seat to its corresponding memory seat position. You may change
seat positions at any time. Once programmed, Transmitter #1 will always
move the seat to position #1, transmitter #2 will always move the seat
to position #2, etc. The feature is turned on at the factory, but you can
deactivate the system by using the buttons for the keyless entry system
if you do not want to use the feature.
To deactivate the Memory Seat feature:
- Enter your permanent entry code (not any personal code you may have selected).
- Within 5 seconds, press and hold 7 / 8.
- Within 5 more seconds, press and release 5 / 6. Release 7 / 8.
To reactivate the Memory Seat system, simply repeat the instructions for
deactivating the system to reinstate the feature.
NOTE: The Memory Seat function will continue to work from the door switch
even when deactivated at the remote keyless entry module. Only remote seat
recall can be deactivated.
