If your car has a bad idle or stalls
but gives you no EEC trouble codes, the problem could be a dirty EVR filter.
The EVR is part of the EGR system on your Lincoln; it bleeds off the engine
vacuum that operates the EGR valve. When the EVR gets clogged, the EGR
stays open and kills your smooth idle.
Where do I start?
If the latter happens, you can go to the Ford dealer and buy a new
filter. Or just go to a junkyard and get another filter from any
of the millions of EEC-IV controlled Ford products. It is worth
your while to go to the junkyard and grab a few!
Clean it!
With the filter in hand, soak it in mild soap and water. A small cup
works well here. Clean the filter until it becomes soft and spongy. Let
the filter dry naturally and clean the EVR assembly with a wet cloth while
you wait. Reinstall the filter onto the stick protruding out of the EVR
assembly. Replace the cap.
And with this, you are done!
