The PCV valve's function
is 'Positive Crankcase Ventilation'. It takes bad air and fumes out of your
crankcase and feeds it back into the intake manifold for pollution control
reasons. If you leave a misfunctioning or clogged PCV valve alone it will
cause bad mojo with your oil and lead to costly maintainence.
There is only one step to replacing the PCV valve:
- Finding it! The picture below shows a GEN1 Mark VIII driver side valve
cover.
Note: I removed my engine beauty cover, you may not need to but I did anyway.
Lets Get Started
There it is, circled in red. Pull it out of the valve cover, detach it from the
hose, attach the new one and plug it back into the valve cover. Make sure you
have used the included plug to plug up the upper connector - only the lower is
used on Mark VIIIs.
It is a $2 part at any auto store, and
there is no excuse for taking this to a shop
and having them do it. Notice mine was broken
and very nasty! Check yours every time you
change your oil - the inner piece should be
very near the opening and should not rattle
much.
